March 6th, 2012Communicating Like Christ Did
In John 15:12 Jesus says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” All Christians should seek to follow this great commandment through their speech. Jesus calls his followers to communicate with total love towards others. In Ephesians 4:29 Paul tells the Ephesians, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” This means that when Christians communicate they need to make serving the other person their highest goal. Selfish pride and ambition should never factor into the equation. Jesus provides the ultimate example of this. Every time He spoke, He spoke with purpose. His words gave wisdom to those who needed it, and sometimes humbled those who needed to be humbled. But His words were never for His own personal gain. Christians, needless to say, fall short of this goal. However, as in every other area, Christians should strive to be like Jesus in this arena. Every conversation should be engaged in with the purpose of loving and building up the other person. By doing this Christians can truly love others through their communication.
Dear Jesus, I want to be like You in every way. I want to love others, especially in the way I communicate with them. Please give me the strength of character to put others before myself, just as You did. Amen
