ROMANS 8:28 “AND WE KNOW THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE WHO LOVE HIM, WHO HAVE BEEN CALLED ACCORDING TO HIS PURPOSE.”
Twice a week for the past 7 + years I have volunteered at the Pike County Correctional Center. The men I have gotten to know have really been a blessing to me. Many are there for drug related crimes and behavior. I have been fortunate to be able to share my FAITH, STRENGTH, HOPE, AND EXPERIENCES with those who feel that there is no hope for their future.
I have seen how Jesus Christ has changed the lives of many of these men and women. I know that but for the grace of our great GOD I would have probably ended up where some of these brothers and sisters have found themselves. Many have found it difficult to believe that a HOLY and RIGHTEOUS GOD would want to have anything to do with people like them. They have even told me that the things they have done in their past would make it impossible for this GOD to ever be able to forgive let alone be able to use people like them.
They are comforted to learn that Romans 3:23 tells them that they are not alone when it comes to being guilty before GOD. John 3:16 tells them that Jesus Christ came to take the penalty of sins not only for them but the whole world. I then read Romans 8:28 to them to show that our great GOD will use everything and anything in their past to bring GLORY to Him, bless them as well as those around them. Like RIPPLES on a lake, GOD will use their past experiences and them to reach those who have made the same or similar mistakes in their life time.
Psalm 40:1-3 tells us to wait patiently for GOD to come to our rescue. It promises that He will not only come to our rescue but will also put a NEW SONG in our hearts. He does this so that “MANY WILL SEE AND FEAR AND PUT THEIR TRUST IN THE LORD.” (v.3) GOD uses all of us to bring others to Him. Sometimes it takes being in places like Pike County Correctional Facility to wake us up to this great calling.
I thank You LORD for calling me to go to the ones less fortunate and share my faith, strengths, hopes and experiences with those who need a special touch from You today. Use me to bring as many as possible into Your presence and kingdom. I long to hear You say “Job well done My good and Faithful servant”. Amen and AMEN!
