“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust is a little word with a big impact. When used correctly it can build up, when not it can destroy. How Peter’s denial must have cut to our LORD’S soul deeper than the whippings.  Probably like you, my own past is fraught with broken trusts and truths.  But God’s truth is always trustworthy. His ways are always better than our ways. As my relationship with our Lord grows I’ve learned, more and more, to pay attention to His leading me. To trust and to do what He wants me to do.

Saturday, October 29, was our winter day so far this year, and I was at work in Florida, NY not thinking much about the snow falling, nor my 25 mile drive home that afternoon after work. But I did manage to leave a half hour early, which was good, because my normal 30 minute drive turned into a 1 1/2 hour ordeal on unplowed roads with not so great tires. Besides, who puts new tires on before November?  I thank God for my, that is, His Subaru.  I was able to get within 1/10 mile from picking up my boys at their mom’s house, when I caught some heavy snow on the side of the road and ended up nose first in a ditch.  I got out my cell phone, which is always off, and called Ethan and Wilson asking them to walk down with some shovels so we could dig out the car. Then, I got out of my car and looked over my situation.  There was absolutely no way we were going to be able to dig it out.  I could hardly walk on the snow covered grass!  So I got back in the car and called my sons, but they were already on their way.  I was all set to stay in my car, out of the snow, until they got there.  I was thinking, “Lord what are we going to do now?”, when all of a sudden I heard in my mind, “Get out of the car.”  ”What?”  I didn’t want to do that!  I was warm and out of the snow which was still falling.  But I heard it again. “GET OUT OF THE CAR NOW!”  ”Ok, ok, I’m going!”  So I got out and stood by the road for about 5 minutes.  I looked down the road, nothing.  But then, I looked up the road and in the distance, coming from the other side of the hill, I saw yellow flashing lights.  As I watched, a line of cars approached followed by a tow truck!  I flagged down the driver and asked if he could pull me out.  He could, we negotiated, and he did.  By then my boys had arrived with the shovels and their bags for the weekend.  What great kids I have!  A half hour later we were out of the ditch and driving away without a scratch on my, that is, God’s car.

If I had stayed in my car, which is what I wanted to do, and not listened to God’s prompting I don’t know how long we would have been stuck there. But I do know I definitely would have missed that tow truck.   Note to self: Listen, Trust and Obey.

Lord, Help us to listen, to trust and to obey You in all that we do.  Amen

Peace, Chuck Moore
