The Gospel of John is different from the other three Gospels. John writes his Gospel in such a way to emphasize Jesus as the Messiah, God’s Son, both in His incarnation and His crucifixion. Watch for ways in which John explains how Jesus revealed God’s love and redeemed humanity. Look for John’s challenge to you as a disciple of Christ to “remain in the Vine”, bear fruit by loving as Christ loved, and how the Holy Spirit will be active in the believer’s life.
Other things to take note of:
† The different feasts/festivals which occur when Jesus is in Jerusalem
† The 7 different miracles which correlate with the “I Am” statements Jesus makes
† What other people, such as Nicodemus, say about Jesus
† Note how John will often start to relate a story about Jesus and end up sharing his perspective on what it signified
† What aspect of Christ’s nature is being emphasized in any given part (His humanity or His Divinity)
† How each incident is ultimately pointing Jesus toward Jerusalem and the Cross
